The geographical features of Miryang are as follows
  • First, the Gyeongbu Line passes through downtown and the KTX train stops. In addition, the Gyeongjeon Line, which connects Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do at Samnangjin, is branched off. The Shin (New) Daegu-Busan Highway and National Roads 24 and 25 which stretch to Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, Changwon and Changnyeong pass through the downtown area. This has made Miryang a transportation hub in Yeongnam region. Accordingly, trade and commerce with its neighboring areas have been very active since the early modern period.
  • Secondly, the ridges of the Hwaaksan Mountain and Gajisan Mountain can be observed from the northeast. Even though the mountains are steep in the northeast, open Sangnam Field and Hanam Field are seen in the south. These geographic benefits resulted in Miryang's highly productive agriculture compared with other cities.
  • Thirdly, the textile industry has flourished owing to the rich soft water. With several fascinating resorts situated along the Namcheon River, Miryang is well positioned for commerce and industry.
  • Lastly, Miryang is also rich in mineral water due to steep mountains and deep valleys. The water flows to the east and north and further to the Miryang River and Nakdong River, creating good conditions for growing freshwater fish.
