July 4, 1949 The Local Government Law was established (Act No. 32)
June 25, 1950 The local government system was delayed due to the breakout of the Korean War
April 25, 1952 The first election of local council members for cities, eups and myeons was held
August 8, 1956 The second election of local council members for cities, eups and myeons was held
December 19, 1960 The third election of local council members for cities, eups and myeons was held
May 16, 1961 Local councils were dissolved nationwide in the aftermath of the May 16 military coup
October 1, 1961 City and Gun local government system was started (Act No. 70)

January 1, 1989 Miryang's status got elevated from Eup to City (Act No. 4050)
December 31, 1990 8th amendment to the Local Government Act was made
March 26, 1991 Election of first Miryang City and Gun Council members was held
(7 members from 6 city constituencies and 11 members from11 gun constituencies)
April 15, 1991 First session of Miryang City and Gun Councils was held
January 1, 1995 Miryang City Council and Miryang Gun Council were combined into Miryang City Council. First city session was held
June 27, 1995 Election of the 2nd Miryang City Council members was held to elect 17 members
July 1, 1995 Second session of Miryang City Council was held
June 4, 1998 Election of the 3rd Miryang City Council was held to elect 16 members.
